And The Winners Are!
| McLean & Eakin's 16th Annual Short Story Contest has come to a close. We had a challenging topic this year: write your own Fractured Fairy Tale. Over 300 entries were submitted this year. Entries came from Lewiston to Cheboygan and Mackinac City to Charlevoix and every town in between. There are many talented young writers out there in Northern Michigan and it was difficult judging all the creative stories. Our Fractured Fairy Tale submissions ranged from a “Little Red Lollipop” who did not want to be eaten, to a doctor trying to treat the emotional and physical problems of some of our favorite fairy tale characters. |

We had lots of unique
versions of “Little Red Riding Hood”; from the Wolf(who was really the
victim in the story) to Red trying to navigate her way through the
streets of New York city to her grandma's penthouse apartment. We had
submissions that were twists on the classic “Goldilocks and the Three
Bears.” Several stories were from the bears' point of view. Our
favorites were all the different takes on Cinderella. Students
submitted creative stories from the evil step-mother's point of view(she
really wasn't so evil) and the evil and mean-spirited Cinderella. We
were even introduced to skierella who won the ski race to win the
prince's heart. We want to thank everyone who submitted a story the
year. We are already working on a new challenging topic for next year.
